What is Evidence Based Treatment?

Evidence based treatment (EBT), are treatments based on tightly controlled research studies showing that a treatment is effective for the diagnosis or diagnoses, symptom(s) or difficulties a person is facing.  Most EBTs are have been tested by multiple, separate researchers using tightly controlled methods and involve hundreds or thousands of patients.  Further, many EBTs are have been compared to other treatments for the same disorder and have been shown to have superior outcomes in a number of domains (for example, greater reduction in symptoms, better quality of life, less hospitalizations etc.).  Of note, the American Psychiatric Association and the American Psychological Association list EBTs as best practice or preferred treatments for disorders. Overall, CBH uses only the latest and most efficacious treatments for the diagnoses, symptoms, and difficulties a person experiences.  Dr. Kleiber is committed to grounding her work in psychological science while building a strong therapeutic relationship with each and every client.  Some of the EBTs Dr. Kleiber uses are: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) including exposure based treatments, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), motivational interviewing (MI), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Why Choose Evidence Based Treatments?

Studies have shown that EBTs have been associated with significant symptom reduction for many years post treatment, while other treatments have not shown the same results.  Just as you would like your medical doctor to use the most up to date and efficacious treatment for a medical diagnoses, a mental health provider uses EBTs to most effectively treat each client's symptoms or difficulties he or she faces.  At CBH, Dr. Kleiber combines sound psychological science and research with warmth, compassion, validation and a non-judgmental attitude to facilitate building a life that the client wants to live.
