Blair Vinson Kleiber, Ph.D. | Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Kleiber, a born and raised Houstonian, is the founder of Comprehensive Behavioral Health, PLLC (CBH) and a practicing psychologist licensed in both Texas and Washington State. She has extensive training in evidence based treatments for depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicidal behaviors. She primarily works with older adolescents, adults, parents, and families with a variety of presentations and difficulties, including self-harm and suicidal behaviors, emotion dysregulation, mood (treatment resistant depression and bipolar disorder), anxiety, and substance use disorders, with a particular interest in treating disorders during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Further, Dr. Kleiber’s research has focused on interventions for depression with a particular focus on mindfulness based treatments and adapting and examining dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
Dr. Kleiber received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in psychology from the University of Washington. As an undergraduate, she served as a research assistant in Dr. Marsha Linehan’s (the developer of DBT) research lab, observing and coding DBT skills groups, an intervention focus on reducing self-harm and suicidal behaviors, as well as examining and delivering one session interventions combining motivational interviewing (MI) and DBT skills for individuals with substance use difficulties and suicidal ideation.
Following the completion of her undergraduate studies, Dr. Kleiber went on to complete her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she worked with Sona Dimidjian, Ph.D., an expert in depression, behavioral activation (BA), and mindfulness. She completed her pre-doctoral psychology internship at the University of Washington School of Medicine. As part of her internship training, she was a member of the DBT treatment team at Harborview Medical Center under the direction of Kate Comtois, Ph.D. Dr. Kleiber completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Evidence Based Treatment Centers of Seattle (EBTCS), one of the first private DBT clinics in the world. There she received further specialized training in DBT, as well as continued work in research regarding DBT.
After completion of her fellowship, Dr. Kleiber continued on at EBTCS as a Staff Clinical Psychologist. She was later promoted to Assistant Director of the DBT Center, where she developed and implemented a rigorous, 9 month training program for all graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and new staff, focusing on DBT, as well as complementary evidence based treatments such as DBT-PE and CPT for Trauma, RO-DBT, and DBT in specific populations. Further, Dr. Kleiber helped develop and oversaw a DBT intensive outpatient program, a more intensive form of DBT conducted for 3 hours a day, 3 days a week for those needing more intensive treatment than standard DBT. Further, Dr. Kleiber supervised and mentored new staff and trainees and was the community liaison between EBTCS and other programs in the area. Dr. Kleiber served as Assistant Director until moving back to Houston and founding Comprehensive Behavioral Health.
Dr. Kleiber is currently a faculty member at the University of Washington School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, where she provides supervision remotely to psychiatry and psychology residents learning DBT in Dr. Comtois' clinic. Dr. Kleiber is a also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Baylor College of Medicine’s Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, where she teaches on various topics related to clinical practice. Further, Dr. Kleiber trains mental health professionals, psychiatrists, clinicians and community organizations in evidence based treatments, as well as gives talks to increase awareness around prevention and intervention in suicidal behaviors.
Dr. Kleiber is board certified as a DBT therapist by the Linehan-DBT Board of Certification (founded by Dr. Marsha Linehan).
